The University of Wisconsin–Stout Polytechnic School of Art and Design welcomes renowned Wisconsin painter and educator Fred Stonehouse to campus for an evening exploring his decades-long career, distinctive artistic vision, and studio practice. Stonehouse has established an international reputation for his evocative, dream-infused visual language that blurs the boundaries between contemporary neo-surrealism, vernacular folk art, pop culture, and classical devotional paintings.

Fred Stonehouse was born in 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received his BFA from UW Milwaukee in 1982. He had his first solo show in Chicago in 1983 and is represented by Billis Williams Gallery in Los Angeles. He has exhibited in Mexico, Amsterdam, Rome, and Berlin. He has been the recipient of an NEA Arts Midwest Grant and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Individual Artists Grant. He is a Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
